Bamburi Cement Dividend 2026: Is Bamburi Still Paying After the Amsons Takeover?
Bamburi Cement dividend 2026 is not something you can buy into any more. Bamburi’s shares have been suspended from NSE trading since February 28, 2025, after Amsons took over the company.
The cement maker is doing well. But it declared no interim dividend for the first half of 2026.
Here is the current status, the dividend history, and what to do if you still hold Bamburi shares.

What Happened to Bamburi Cement Shares?
Bamburi was a blue chip on the NSE for decades. Then came a takeover battle.
- July 2024: Tanzanian group Amsons offered KES 65 a share.
- August 2024: Kenya’s Savannah Clinker countered at KES 70, but later withdrew.
- December 2024: Amsons completed its acquisition, taking 96.54% of Bamburi.
- February 28, 2025: The NSE suspended trading to allow a compulsory buyout of the rest.
- June 2025: Amsons held about 99.98%. Just ten minority shareholders held 67,082 shares.
Amsons kept the option to delist Bamburi once it crossed the ownership threshold. As of the latest reports, a delisting is expected but needs regulatory approval. See Business Daily’s coverage and Kenyan Wallstreet.
Can You Still Buy Bamburi Cement Shares?
No. With trading suspended, there is no public market for Bamburi shares on the NSE.
That also means there is no Bamburi dividend yield to chase. Almost every share belongs to one owner, so nearly all future dividends would flow to Amsons.
Bamburi Cement Dividend History
| Payout | Per share | Paid |
|---|---|---|
| Final dividend | KES 5.47 | July 25, 2024 |
| Special dividend (Hima Cement sale) | KES 18.25 | September 27, 2024 |
| Last interim dividend | KES 2.00 | H1 2021 |
| Interim dividends, 2022 to 2026 | None | n/a |
The 2024 payouts add up to KES 23.72 per share.
The KES 18.25 special dividend came from the sale of Bamburi’s 70% stake in Uganda’s Hima Cement. It equalled about 61% of the roughly USD 84 million proceeds.
Bamburi has now skipped the interim dividend for five straight first halves.
Bamburi Cement Results: Can It Afford a Dividend?
Yes. The business is stronger than it has been in years. For the six months to June 2026:
- Profit: KES 1.37 billion, up 59% and the highest first-half result since 2017.
- Turnover: KES 13.72 billion, up 20%.
- Operating profit: KES 2.05 billion, up 72%.
- Operating cash flow: an inflow of KES 2.25 billion, against an outflow a year earlier.
But capacity isn’t the issue. With one dominant owner and no public market, the board has little reason to pay out for outside investors. Any dividend now is a private decision by Amsons.
Own Bamburi Shares? What to Do Next
